Fishing The Ure At Masham

This walkabout is named Upper Limit Woods, although this is a misdemeanor as it more of a line of trees a few deep bordering a field and fenced in before it hits the main wood. However it gave me shelter from a shower and as I drank my coffee, I saw the fence posts and one looked like an owl. It gave me the idea of a future project of fence posts and boundary markers. I grabbed a few to start with and not finding much more to keep my interest I then went on to collected a few of the standard sunset shots. However, it got more interesting playing with the clouds in the images.
About Masham
Masham – originally Maessa’s Ham – probably owed its foundation to the gentle, flood-proof rise on which it stands, near an easily fordable part of the River Ure, together with its proximity to the course of a Roman road and its position on the main route from Wensleydale to York.
The present square with its beautiful Georgian houses was created in the 18th century. The huge market place would originally have been surrounded by thatched cottages and was the site for annual Sheep Fairs with over 80,000 heads of sheep being sold some years, including animals from the flocks of nearby Fountains and Jervaulx Abbeys.
