Saturday Night

Saturday Nights in the Lizard Lounge

INTRODUCTION

Saturday Night was the brain child of Jonny Boscoe and as he says “shows the real city of culture that went on in the year of celebration” and “the invasion” as he puts it. This is one of those selected galleries coming from nearly a year’s worth of Saturday night photography at the Lizard Lounge. Some of the images will be of the normal advertorial flashed image of the venues customers, but most will be the candid’s and the lifestyle images taken without flash and timed for the clubs lighting sequence to put you in the club for Hull`s year as City of Culture and what the normal folks of `Ull did that year.

Masham – originally Maessa’s Ham – probably owed its foundation to the gentle, flood-proof rise on which it stands, near an easily fordable part of the River Ure, together with its proximity to the course of a Roman road and its position on the main route from Wensleydale to York.

The present square with its beautiful Georgian houses was created in the 18th century.  The huge market place would originally have been surrounded by thatched cottages and was the site for annual Sheep Fairs with over 80,000 heads of sheep being sold some years, including animals from the flocks of nearby Fountains and Jervaulx Abbeys.
